Though a rush is anticipated before the closing on Alay 23, the Irish Derby sweep-prize fund is at present at £6OO, 000, and is likely to fall far short of the Grand National total of £1,182,415. A committeeman does not attribute the drop to the smaller prizes, but points out that the. Irish sweep no longer possesses the charm o novelty. The Calcutta sweep this year was the lowest for 15 years.
