I I I FIRE BOARD The monthly meeting of the Taihape • Fire Board was held on Friday evening. • Mr L. B. H. do Lautour, presiding over a satisfactory attendance. The superintendent’s report for the month of April, read as follows: "During the month, the brigade heli one meeting and two practices. There , was one chimney fire and no false ' alarms in April. The chimney fire occurred at the telephone exchange building on April 15, but no damage resul*I ed The new battery for the electrical . alarm system, has been installed and ! seems to be working satisfactorily. I would recommend that the board . . purchase the set of chasers and rivetter ■ which we have now on approval. The ‘ cost is £3 10s. By this outlay we shall always have the threads of the | ’ couplings in first-class order, and the | . rivetter is the only method which 1 know of, that is satisfactory for repairing hose to stand a pressure of 100 ’ to 1301 bs. The installation of a light over the indicator board with the switch near the door, will obviate the necessity of burning two lights al] night in the station. I would recommend that this be done. The report was adopted. The question of imposing a fine upon any person responsible for a chimney fire was discussed and the matter was left in the hands of the full board to deal with. The matter of charging the deputysuperintendent 12s 6d per month for j electric light used at the fire station, was also left to the full board to consider
