THE LUCKIEST AERODROME

NO FATALITY IN SIX YEARS “The luckiest aerodrome in the world.” That is the claim advanced by the staff of the Bircham Newton Aerodrome, near Hunstanton, England, for their flying depot. During the past six years there has not been a single fatal accident in connection with this aerodrome, an ( ] the number of crashes of any sort has been remarkably small. “We do oup fair share of flying,” an official of the aerodrome said recently, “but for some reason or other wo seem to escape our share of accidents. “We have our narrow escapes, of course, and just to mention a few pieces of luck I can refer to two men who recently had to descend from a great height in their parachutes owing to the aeroplane going wrong. But neither was injured. Again, about three years ago, a machine came down in the sea at Hun stanton, but the pilot, though injured, crawled on to a wing and was rescued. “I doubt if any aerodrome has a, better record of good luck.” The Prince of Wales has frequently used the Bircham Aerodrome, as it is near •Sandringham.
