The rescue is described as a race between tho aviator, Captain Ahrenbcrg and W./kins, leader of the British Arctic air survey expedition, of which Courtauld was a member. The latter’s party with toiling dogs sledged across the ice and were the first to rescue him. The party is now cn route to the base. Courtauld joyfully leading the, way, Jit and well, despite his privations. Meanwhile, Ahrenbcrg had an almost miraculous discovery of tho hut, which was piled up with snow. He landed on treacherous ice, finding it deserted. He flew dangerously low, following the sledge track until he overtook the expedition, from which Courtauld signalled: “Everything is right. I consider it a miracle.” Lauge Kock, referring to t..e rescue, said that it was difficult to visualise what Courtauld must have gone through during tho terrible months in tho Arctic hurricanes and loneliness.
