ENGINEER’S REPORT

The engineer (Air. T. Dix; reported as follows;

Auckland-Wellington Highway. —The metalling of the foundation course on the new formation at the 11-mile post has been completed and consolidated by rolling. The excess of loose shingle of the mulch surface has been redistributed. the highway was regularly grad ed. Waitotara Riding. —Weak places on the Rangitatau Watershed liignway at Waitahinga have been reinstalled and rolled, fern was cut and the length of highway graded. The foundation course of the ParcKama road metalling was rolled. The metalling of the foundation course of the ixgarino road Has been completed and the metal has been consolidated by roiling. On the Ran gitautau West road slips were cleared, tables cleaned and the new metal was

shaped and rolled.. {Surfacemen have been trimming the Waitotara Valley road for metailing; so far the autiiority to proceed with the metalling has not been received, although proposals which were submitted to the i’.W.D. last October have been approved. Brunswick Riding.—On the Rapanui, Springvale-Francis and Heads Aloss town highways routine maintenance work was carried out. The Tokomaru East and West, Riverbank, ami Living stone roads were metal patched; Bel mont, Westmere, Cameron, Virginia. Westmere Station, Brunswick, Grange Western Line, Westmere, Campbell, Lilybank and Blueskin roads and Clarkson avenue were graded. Points are being widened by surfaceman on the Tokomaru East and Kdatanui roads.

Alosston Riding. -The formation of the footpath along Parsons Street has been completed. Springvale-Francisaad Heads-Alosston highways, Fitzhcrbert Avenue. Peake’s, Caversham, Fox and Parkes’ Estate roads were graded. Tokomaru R'ding.—The lower end of the Rangitatau-Watershed and also Bruce road were graded. Forty chains of the foundation course on the Rai.-gitatau-Watershed highway have been metalled and the widening contract has been completed. The metalling contract on the Kauarapaoa road is finished.
