BISHOP LISTON’S TRIBUTE. NOBLE LEGACY OF GOOD DEEDS. The high esteem in which the late "ev. Brother Basil was held was strikingly shown by the large gathering which attended the celebration of Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Auckland on Thursday. Bishop Liston presided, while the celebrant of Mass was the Rev. Father McKeefrey. Other officiating clergy were the Rev. Father O’Leary, dean; the Rev. Dr. Buxton, master of ceremonies; the Rev. Father Colgan, deacon; and Deans Van Dyke and MTnrphy, assistants at the throne. Monsignor Cahill, Archdeacon Holbrook and the Rev. Father Eccleton, parish priest at Tuakau, were also present in the Sanctuary. The congregation included the pupils of the Sacred Heart College, of w.'.icii Brother Basil was the first dir)ft?or, and the boys of the Marist Brothers’ School at Vermont Street. The Sacred Heart College Old Boys’ Association was represented by Mr K. A. Sneddon and Mr G. Ricketts. In a brief address Bishop Li it on referred to Brother Basil’s long and devoted service to Christian education in New Zealand. He had been %a able and energetic teacher, a guide to young men r.nd an inspiration to the clergy. He had indeed left a noble legacy of good deeds to his Order and to his many pupils. At the conclusion of Mass the funeral cortege left for Panmure Cemetery, where the intermen- took place.
