TWO HUNDRED SACKED
WAITAKI HYDRO WORKERS MEETING THE “OFF” SEASON [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 28. Two hundred mon have been put off from the Waitaki Hydro- Electric Works, according to a statement by tho Engineer-in-Chicf, Mr R. H. Packwood. He denied a report that drastic reductions had been made and maintained that the 200 men had had to be dispensed with because the summer whs the “off” season for carrying on the work. At the end of November there wore 1200 men on the works. To-day thj total is 1000. Air Pack wood states that many of the men left of their own accord to take up seasonal work, shearing and harvesting.
