SCHNEIDER CUP CONTEST

WILL BRITAIN ENTER? A CORRESPONDENT’S APPEAL LONDON, Dec. 14. “Is Britain to own defeat?” writes Mr Turner, aviation correspondent, of the Daily Telegraph, commenting on her doubtful participation in the Schneider Cup race, about which joint Air Ministry and aero clubs’ committees are at present debating. Mr Turner stresses the fact that the cost of defending the trophy will be considerably below’ that incurred in the last race, as four high speed machines are built. It is definite that should the Air Ministry decline to make the defence of the trophy a service affair no British machines would participate, for only the Air Ministry possessed the necessary aircraft and pilots. Furthermore, France arid Italy were entering service teams. It would be a great shame if Britain vacated the field now, because in the event of winning the trophy it would become absolutely the property of the nation apart from the prestige gained.
