PATEA THE PLUNKET FETE. PRIZE WINNERS. The following are the prize-winners in the decorated classes at the Plunket feto on Saturday last:— Decorated pony: Ross Richardson 1, Pat Williams 2. Pets: Biddy Taylor 1 (Mrs Searle’s special prize), Lorna Hughes 2. Cars:Mrs Richardson 1 (bottle of wine donated by Mrs Quickenden). Bicycles: Stanley Pauling (Mrs Reed’s prize), and R. C. Amon, equal, 1. Tricycle: A. Boots (Mr Locker’s prize) 1, Bunny Ray 2. Prams, adult class: Billy Laing (Airs Simmons’ prize) J. Doll’s pram: Hilary Herbert (president’s prize) 1, Betty Close 2, Cynthia Simmons (special prize presented by Airs E. Searle). Aliscellaneous: Miss Tairoa 1. as Amy Johnson in her Jensen’’ (Airs Anderson’s special); Henry Marchall 2. The name of the beautiful bride doll which was dressed by Airs Pauling was chosen by the Rev. Smaille some weeks ago, and was declared as Gwendoline. Lt was won by Miss Gwendoline Bond. One of the most interesting stalls from a Plunket point of view was that conducted by Nurse Horrell, and at which was displayed suitable diet for the baby and toddler from six months to IS months, with diet sheets and instructions artistically printed. A humorous touch was added by a card heavily bordered in black, denoting things which, should not be included—fried potato, baked potato, ham sausage, beef, sweets and pastry cakes Al any mothers and fathers were interested in this display, which was so faithfully carried out on true Plunket lines.

The following donors of prizes were also thanked: Sargot, Ltd., Burgess, Fraser Ltd., Ballantyne and Reed Ltd., Alessrs I. Honeyfield, R. M. Stevens, and L. Jones.

The beautiful table decorations in the tearoom were the work of Miss B. Gibson.

MINISTER’S APPRECIATION. The following telegram was received by the Mayor of Patea from the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy (Minister of Health) who performed the opening ceremony in connection with the Hunter Shaw Children’s Ward, Hunter Shaw Afemorial building, Dental Clinic and Court House on Wednesday last: “Please accept my sincerest thanks for all your courtesies so kindly bestowed on Wednesday last, and my congratulations upon the excellence of your organisation throughout the day. Kind regards. —A. J. Stallworthy.” DOMAIN BOARD. At a Domain Board meeting on Friday last it was decided that in future a charge of £2 10s per day be made for the use of the shed and oval by those desirous of making a gate charge. PERSONAL. Miss E. Hamerton, who is ’dowly Recovering from a severe illness of neuritis and rheumatism, and is still detained at Napier. Afiss S. Roberts is visiting Wanganui for the Girls’ College festivities. Miss D. Roberts is staying with Airs Handley at Maxwell. PROFICIENCY PASSES. PATEA AND WHENUAKVRA. In the recent proficiency examination William Brooker, of the W’henuakura School, gained his proficiency certificate, whilst Alary Parsons and Alfred Pepperell, of th same school, gained competency certificates. CRICKET. PATEA v. STRATFORD. The Patea team journeyed to Stratford on Saturday and were defeated by the local team by six wickets after a most enjoyable game. The following were the scores:— Patea.
