OFFENDING MOTORISTS
CASES BEFORE COURT. At a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Wanganui yesterday, presided over by Afr J. H. Salnwn. S.M., the following jffcnces by motorists were dealt with:— Hubert Carter, who drove at night without a tail lighT, was orderci to pay costs 10s. F. Galbraith, who did not signal his intention of turning to the right, was fined £l, with costs. Henry W. Hodge, who failed to deliver up military equipment, valued a' £1 0s lid, was ordered to pay the amount and costs 10s.
Trevor 8. Innes, who failed to deliver up military equipment, valued at £1 Is Ils, was ordered to pay the amount, plus costs. E. R. Ransom, who cycled at. night without a light, was fined £l, with costs 10s. Senior-Sergeant McLean said that. Constable Smith had to chase defendant in a motor-car to catch him. Defendant said the constable whistled and he did not know- who was whistling. J. P. Smithies admitted driving a motor-car in a negligent manner at Maxwell. Senior-Sergeant AlcLean said that defendant drove round a bend at. 35 miles an hour on the wrong side of the road and there was a collision. A fine of £5, with costs 16s and witnesses’ expenses. J. Tamoa. who drove at. night without a tail light, was fined £l, with costs.
For cutting a corner T. Warihana was fined £l, with costs.
L. Williams was fined £l. with costs, for driving without a tail light. J. R. Clarke was charged with speeding over an intersection of Nukumaru. A fine of £3. with costs 10s, was imposed. and solicitor 10s 6d. H. Hayward, for speeding with a motor-lorry on the Great North Road, was lined £5. with costs. On a similar charge A. 8. Hounsell was fined £3, with costs, his load on the vehicle being lighter. E. O’Meara, for speeding over an intersection at Nukumaru, was fined £3. with costs. F. R. Renshaw, who allowed a horse to wander at Fordell, was fined 10s, with costs. J>. J. Ross was charged with speeding with a lorry in the Patea County, and was fined £5. with costs. Inspector Wilson said he had to do fifty miles an hour to pass him. J. H. Slattery, for speeding at, Nukumaru. was fined £3, with costs. R. C. McMasters, on a similar charge, was lined £3 with costs. J. J’. Smithies, for speeding in the Avenue, was fined £5, with costs 10s. (18). stopped the “rot,” and Stewart (HD, I’ye (18', and Clapham (15) carried on, the total being 97. Halcombe won by 38 runs.
