GIRLS’ COLLEGE

SWIMMING SPORTS. The Wanganui Girls’ College held their annual swimming sports on Saturday afternoon. The day was gloriously , fine and keen interest was displayed in the many events. Miss Cruickshank, the principle of the college, welcomed the many guests. A delicious afternoon tea was served to the visitors, ani at the conclusion of the swimming events everyone wended their way ro the big assembly room to view the annual display of work executed by the pupils. Dainty frocks and jumper suits —rows of them —simple but pretty, were neatly made and which would prove very useful to the girls while on holiday, formed a large part of the display. Fancy work of all kinds, an endless variety of pretty underwear, pyjamas, and clothes made for smaller sisters were on show. In the arts section there were copper log boxes, fire screens, fenders, mirrors, and pewter trinket boxes and trays, all showing modern and attractive designs. Other

exhibits included paintings, drawings, crayon sketches, and models of Maori weapons.

A particularly interesting section was the Home Science exhibits and the separate tables with the posters as a guide for the visitors. On the small tables were shown all kinds of delectable cakes, dishes of vegetables, and salads, puddings, meat, soups, fish, etc. One table was devoted to invalid cookery, another to savouries, while sandwiches with various fillings, jam, preserved fruit, cough mixture and cleaning paste, etc., were other features of the display that proved of interest m) the parents and friends of the pupih.
