RACING AT TE AWAMUTU

WAIPA MEETING RESULTS CUP TO IN THE SHADE KABOPOTI WINS THE SPRINT. [Per Press Association.] ,TE AWAMUTU, Dec. 13. The summer meeting of the Waipa Racing Club was held to-day in glorious weather. The attendance exceeded expectations. The track was fast and some good racing was provided. The totalisator turnover was £16,508, a decrease of £lOl7 compared with the meeting last year. Results were as follows: PIRONGIA HURDLES. (Of £125; one mile and a half). 6—Quincoma. 9.1, Foster 1 I—Marble King, 9.7 2 4—St. Warrigal, 10.5 3 Also: 7 Star Comet 11.3, 2 Air King 10.6 (fell), 8 Bourn 10.1, 4 Arch Eagle 9.0, 5 Cristobel 9.0. At the home turn Air King and Marble King held a slight advantage, but Air King fell at the last hurdle and Quincoma shot to the front, winning by ten lengths, with the third horse four lengths back. Cristobel was fourth. Time: 2.45. KIHIKIHI HANDICAP. (Of £100; seven furlongs). I—Tenakoe,1 —Tenakoe, 5.5, H. Gray * 3 Honiton, 8.1, Keesing * 4 Hakanoa, 8.7, Goldfinch 3 *Dead-heat for first. Also: 2 Vai roe 8.12, 5 Unoco 7.6, 6 Sulla 7.0. Tenakoe stumbled at the back. Valroe taking the lead but Honiton was first into the straight. Tenakoe flung out a challenge and managed to get up in the last stride to make a dead-heat of it. Hakanoa was three lengths back, and Valroe was fourth. Time: 1.28.

At the start Musical Item and Musquin would not face the barrier and were left. Rita’s Light led the field until Aspian took charge in the final stages and came or. to win by three lengths from Te Homai, with Merry Lu two lengths further back. Wee Prince was fourth. Time: 1.15 1-5. TE AWAMUTU CUP. (Of £250; one mile and a quarter). 2 IN THE SHADE, 9.4, Bagby .. 1 3 MERVETTE, 7.11, Keesing .. .. 2 4 CRUACHAN, 7.3, Voitre .... 3 Also: 1 Eager Rose 8.0, 5 Standfast 8.0, 9 Flying Prince 7.3, 6 Desert Glow 7.1, 10 Kingfield 7.0, 8 -Antique 7.0, 7 Motere 7.0. The favourite, Eager Rose, led out from the barrier with Standfast and Mervette. After two furlongs had been covered the order past the stand was Eager Rose, Flying Prince and Desert Glow. Flying Prince became the pilot along the back, where In the Shade was last in a bunched field. At the home turn the order was Standfast, Mervette and Antique, but over the final stages In the Shade finished strongly and won by a neck from Mervette, with Cruachan two lengths away, clear of a bunched field. Eager Rose was fourth. Time: 2.8 2-5. PATERANGI HANDICAP. (Of £100; about eight furlongs and a half). 2 Sir Mond, 9.10, Bagby 1 I—Thurnus,1 —Thurnus, 8.3, Gray 2 3 First Lap, 8.0, McTavish 3 Also: 5 Day Lass 8.0, 4 Hazelwood 8.0. Hazelwood led for three parts of the distance but Sir Mond and Thurnus were the leaders in the straight and Sir Mond won by a length and a-quarter. First Lap was four lengths back, and Hazelwood fourth. Time: 1.51. ORAKAU HACK. (Of £10®; seven furlongs). 3—Te Hoia, 9.8, H. Gray 1 1— Gold Day, 7.7, W. Broughton .. 2 2 Indolent, 8.0, Keesing 3 Also: 9 Unoco 8.7, 8 Stonehenge 7.12, 7 Rose Lupin 7.12, 4 Archileen 7.12, 12 Sulla 7.8, 6 Merry Lu 7.7, 10 Illuminagh 7.7, 5 Master Armour 7.7, 13 Goodfellow 7.7, 11 Armenia 7.7. Merry Ln led till the straight was reached but could not stay the distance, Te Hoia winning by half a length, with Indolent a smilar distance back. Rose Lupin was fourth. Time: 1.28 2-5. FLYING HANDICAP. (Of £150; six furlongs). I—Karapoti,1—Karapoti, 8.7, H. Gray 1 I—Pegaway, 10.1, A. Tinker .... 2 3 Sir Kay, 7.0, S. Gerrand .. .. 3 Also: 2 Leitrim 8.7, 4 Royal Ruler 7.7, 5 Awamutu 7.0, 6 White Ringlet 7.0. From a delayed start Awamutu and Karapoti were smartest out. Pegaway challenged on the turn for home and Sir Kay and Royal Ruler moved up, Karapoti winning by half a length from Pegaway, with whom he was bracketed on the machine. Sir Kay was two lengths back. Royal Ruler was fourth. Time: 1.13 4-5. OHAUPO HANDICAP. (Of £100; seven furlongs). 5 Miss Albyn. 7.0, 1 I—Romford,1 —Romford, 7.0 2 6 Valsier, 8.10 3 Also: Volimond 9.2, Mosque 9.0, Vandyke 8.6, Ruling Chief 7.0. The winner soon took charge and got home by a length from Romford, who was two lengths in front of Valsier. Time: 1.28 3-5.
