LAST 1930 MEETING DAY

BOARD ADJOURNS THRICE. Yesterday was the last meeting day of the Wanganui Education Board during .1930 and, so far as the business was concerned, it might, very aptly, have been termed a day of adjournments. After the confirmation of minutes there came a break to visit the display of work at the Central Infants’ School and that ot the special class at Park. The order paper had hardly been started again when the lady members of the staff provided afternoon tea’ as a means of expressing their good wishes for the festive season. A little later on, just prior to going into committee, the board adjourned a third time to have a group photograph taken. At the Infants' School. The visitors were met bv the headmistress of the Central Infants’ School (Afiss Blennerhassett) and were escorted round the very pleasing display. Every member was impressed with what he saw. The accomplishments of the tiny tots did them credit and was a reflection of the zeal of the teaching staff. The wotk was arranged in class order and it was interesting to follow it up and note the gradual improvement. It ranged from little ornamental match boxes up to samples of raffia work that would do credit to any sec; ondary school. There was French knitting, plasticine work, drawing, writing, crayon colouring and a multitude of material which told a tale of keen interest. There were some splendid examples of script writing by pupils who had not been at school longer than six months. Air W. A. Collins, chairman of the Board, extended to Miss Blennerhassett good wishes for the approaching festive | season. At Queen’s Park. The party was welcomed by Mr H. W. Jackson, headmaster at Queen’s Park, and were shown the work of the special class by the teacher in charge, Miss F. Stevens. Here again the board members were impressed with the results of the year’s labour and, to mark the occasion, each bought a souvenir. One purchased bath salts done up in a pleasing decorated bottle, another had a Golliwog, and somebody else came away with a nicely worked handbag. Here again Mr Collins complimented the teacher and pupils on their work and extended the board’s wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Back at the Board Boom. "I'he provision of afternoon tea by lady members of the staff was greatly appreciated. The chairman thanked them and extended seasonal greetings. He also voiced sentiments to the board members, to the officers and members | of the staff, and to the press. Mr E. F. Hemingway replied and reciprocated the expressions of good will on the board’s behalf.
