F. Hemingway, J. S. Tingcy and- AL H Oram The Education Department notified agreement to a grant for tile draining at College Street, Palmerston N o r t h—Rece i v e d.

The Department wrote in reply to the Board’s request for additional accommodation at Russell Street, pointing out that when the new dental clinic was established on the manual training site there would be an extra room available at the Central School. The chairman said that, that was already booked for the children of a new orphanage. Air Oram: It won’t relieve Russell Street at all. I move that the Department be advised of that.

The Department wrote in rcferncc to the application for additional accommodation at Bainesse. It stated hat there was sufficient floor space for the pupils attending the school, and while conditions were not as satisfactory as they might be it was considered that the application would have to be disposed of in terms of previous advice. This was to the effect that there was to be no grant. The chairman said that he had mentioned the matter to the Minister who contended that the work was not to be done. The letter was received.

A petition from parents and householders asked that the Raurimu School be moved to a new site. The secretary reported that negotiations were taking place with the Railway Department. It was resolved to advise the petitioners accordingly.

Further correspondence, was read from Aliddle Road regarding the site for the proposed new school. The Board decided to adhere to its original decision to erect the building on the site for which the grp nt was authorised, that on At. Frederick’s property.

The Board confirmed its previous decision to hand over to the Department a reserve at Kduangaroa as a site for a proposed Native school.

Mr Coleman asked to be relieved of making a report on a proposed road deviation at Rata which involved some of the Board’s property. He said that he was acting in a dual position in that he was a member of the Kangitikei County Council and, as such, was definitely opposed to the deviation. It was decided that the county be asked as to whether it had a proposal to make.

The architect reported unfavourably on the ventilation and lighting of tho Tiulls School. The chairman said that ?.he matter had arisen as the result of the Minister expressing himself in favour of something being done immediately. The architect recommended remodelling and the Board approved of application for a grant being made to the Department. The architect reported on the application for a new shelter shed at Brunswick. He said that the old shed was past repair, but as the school was adequately fitted with porches the urgency was not so great as to warrant action before next year. The report was endorsed.

The architect was instructed to report on an application from the Glen Oroua Committee asking that a tool shed be erected.
