ENORMOUS SUM WANTED BIG DEFICIT EXPECTED WASHINGTON, Dec. 3. In recommending to Congress to-day his 3,932,842,000 dollars Budget for the next fiscal year, President Hoover opposed the continuance of reduced income taxes. He reiterated his prediction that there would be a 180,000,000 dollars deficit this year, and issued a warning that the during the next six months to alleviate unemployment and .drought, it would result in another deficit in 1932. He supplemented his request for 150,000,000 dollars for an unemployment emergency appropriation for construction work with a proposal for 132.000,000 dollars to be spent on public buildings.

Before the close of the next fiscal year the United States will spend 690,000,000 dollars on the nation’s defence if Congress approves of the estimates, which are nearly 34,000,000 dollars less than for the current year, but it is contemplated that the use of unexpended balances T ”ould almost offset the decrease of 15,000,000 dollars required for the liquor antismuggling activities of the coastguard.

AMERICAN IMMIGRATION A FIVE YEARS’ BAN WASHINGTON, Dec. 3. The chairman of the House Immigration Committee (Air Johnston) introduced legislation to-day to suspend all immigration for five years. This is identical with the resolution of Senator Reed (Republican) of Pennsylvania, except that the suspension period has been increased from two to five years. UNEMPLOYMENT FUND ROCKEFELLER GIFT NEW YORK, Dec. 3. Mr John Rockefeller and his son John have together contributed 1,000,000 dollars to the emergency unemployment fund, which has now secured 4,133,000 dollars of the intended 6,000,000 dollars with which to meet the conditions brought on by local unemployment.

Mr Rockefeller is 91 years of age. He has given over £100,000,000 for philanthropic and charitable purposes and established institutions of benefit to the whole world.
