Brown (North Taranaki) and Geo. Syme (South Taranaki). The Taranaki team will be as follows; O. M. Nasmith (New Plymouth). C. Kingstono (Waitara). A. Petty (Old Boys, N.P.) C. G. Clarke (New Plymouth). G. Harding (High School). S. Lay (Old Boys, Hawera). 11. Barker (Old Boys, Hawera). J. Cheevers (Old Boys, Hawera).. A. Crawford (Okaiawa). S. Betts (Kaponga). J. Morrison (High School). The reserves are; Groombridge (New Plymouth), Kirwin (Old Boys), Leech (New Plymouth). The Taranaki team is widely spread, six of the players coming from North Taranaki and five from South Taranaki. Kingstono at present is playing for Waitara. In the north, the Old Boys Club has one representative, A. Petty. The New Plymouth club has two representatives, Nasmith and Clarke, and the strong High School team has representatives in Harding and Morrison.

In the south the Old Boys Chib has three representatives in Lay, Barker and Cheevers. Crawford comes from Okaiawa and S. Betts from Kaponga The captain of the Taranaki team will soon be selected by the Taranaki Association. It is unlikely that any of the players will be unavailable, with the possible exception of Cheevers. The Taranaki team is one that should give a great deal of satisfaction to followers of the game, says the Daily News. On the whole a young team, with and Clarke to give guidance, it has strength in both batting and bowling. Kingstono, Nasmith. Clarke, Lay, Barker and Cheevers arc all proved representative players of very even calibre. They make a good backbone to the team.

Petty is a quick, trustworthy wicketkeeper. Harding, the High School boy, is a good solid bat. Crawford is a fast change bowler who is dangerous if he strikes a spot. Betts has been making some big scores in the south lately and can bat powerfully when he has played himself in. The only slow break bowler in the team besides Nasmith is Morrison, the other High School player. If the wicket. is treacherous he will be very useful. The only regret is that there is no representative of the County Association in the team, eoncludeh the News. About Wanganui. As far as Wanganui is concerned, it may be stated, without wishing to dash any hopes to the ground, that stronger teams have been sent away from Wanganui, but there are several young players selected who should make names for themselves later on Among these arc Bullock-Douglas, Fowler, Gee, McDougal and Mete Kingi. In addition there are some of the older players who will lend stability to the team. In batting the team appears quite strong, while there are several slow bowlers, though the absence of an express bowler is to be deplored. In the field Wanganui should do well, though even lately some of the players have boon rather lax. Several of the players included in the original selection -were unfortunately not available, being unable to get away. Among those who could not make the trip is C. A. Holland who. a$ a bowler, has few superiors in New land is a sound batsman, invariably making 50 to 100 runs in matches of Zealand. A brilliant field at slip, Holthis kind.

Holland’s figures for the last ten years of Wanganui cricket are well worth producing, as follows:—Batting, 98 innings, 15 times not out, total runs 2927; average 35.26. Bowling, 1142 overs, 387 maidens, 355 wickets for 4036 runs; average 11.36. He has also taken 56 catches.

Holland’s principal scores have been; 145 and 125 v. Victoria; 101 and 76 v. Y.M.C.A.; 95*, 94, SO and (*) v. Technical College; 93, 60 and 54 v. Collegiate School, 93, 89, 67, 56* and 50 v. Old Boys; 69 v. Technical College Old Boys; 60 and 50 v. United. In Hawke Cup matches he made 111 against Waikato, and has scored 50 and over on no fewer than eight occasions. His best bowling performance iu these matches was when he took the whole of Taranaki’s wickets in their first innings for 36 runs, an average of 3.6. In the past no Wanganui team has been complete without this brilliant veteran.
