COSTER BALL
Arrangements are being finalised for the Coster Ball which is to be held at the Drill Hall on December 10, and indications point to the function being such as to tax the Drill Hall accommodation to the utmost. It is already evident that many excellent representations of the costermonger fraternity will be present, and in this respect, there seems to be some doubt amongst numerous enquirers as to what type o.f costume is desirable. In the window of the “Chronicle” and Herald offices in the Avenue, an illustration of some of the costumes at a similar function held in Wellington recently should give any in doubt an idea of what is required.
As regards men, no great originality is necessary. That old pair of pants with the seat long since worn through, patched up for the occasion, a rod handkerchief, your old “bowler,” now a size too small, and there you are! As for womenfolk, women’s inherent originality in the matter of dress should accomplish all that is required! Local firms are invited to enter their costumes for the poster parade, and make their own arrangements as to the wearing of their costumes. Further information on this matter mav be obtained from Mrs Hilton Osborne, telephone 3G97. Though typical costermonger wares will be on sale, supper will be provided free. The Queen Alexandra’s Band, under Cajhain Buckley, have gratuitously offered their services until 10.30 p.ni., when they will be relieved by the Kashmiri Orchcstro. Therefore excellent dance music is assured. Tickets man be obtained from H. T. Jones and Son, Ellery Gilbert and the Bristol Piano Coy.
