“IRRITATING DELAYS"
TOURIST SHIP MALOLO LENGTHY HEALTH INSPECTIONS REPLY FROM THE DEPARTMENT (Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. Complaints made at Auckland by the officers of the American tourist ship Malolo. regarding irritating delays at Australian ports and Wellington through the unduly long inspection by the port health authorities, is strongly denied by the New Zealand Health Department. The Department states that the Malolo did not drop anchor at Wellington till 3.35 p.m. Two doctors in a tender were waiting alongside, but owing to the Malolo overlooking a boarding ladder, the health officials did not get aboard until 3.45 pm, The examination of the passengers and crew was completed in 30 minutes, Captain Berndston. Master of the Malolo. complimenting them on the quick manner in which inspection had been carried out.
The Department adds that in spite of the fact that the Malolo’s officers in Auckland, stated that the Health of the M aide’s passengers was quite assured from the start, the examining officials discovered a certain vicious disease among certain passengers and members of the crew. These were not allowed to land.
