BRUTAL CHINESE BANDITS
MONGULS EFFECT A RESCUE
[By Telegraph—Press Aseociatiqn—Copyright.] Received Dec. 2, 11.30 p.m. SHANGHAI, .Dec. 2. Monguls rescued Airs 11. D. Hayward and Miss Egomersal who w r ere captured by bandits near Patoachen. Officials have wired for troops to disperse the bandits. The rescue party reached Patoachen.
A message on Sunday last stated that that two nurses, Airs H. D. Hayward, an American and Miss Egomersal, a British subject, left Vim station, Lanchow, at the end of October for’Pcking. Airs Hayward was critically ill and intended to undergo a surgical operationLast week when the two women were 20 miles from Patoachen, travelling on rafts, bandits captured them. They robbed them and stripped off their clothing, then took them into captivity. Missionaries were attempting to rescue the nurses and a relief party left Peking to seek tho captives. The party was composed of Alessrs Findlay and Andrews, famine workers, and Lieutenant Kanaga, of the United States, and Captain Staples, a British officer.
