In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales, Queensland in the first innings made 687, which is a record for a Sheffield Shield match at Brisbane. Thompson made 275 not out, Benstead 52 and Hurwood 47. Bowling, Hunt took four for 128, Chilvers, two for 209 and Stewart two for 83. Fairfax did not get a solitary wicket.
New South Wales in their second innings lost five for 159. Jackson and Mecabe each made 53. The match was remarkable for the phenomenal scoring. Thompson’s achievement caused the wildest cheering and the spectators carried him shoulder high. Queensland won on the first innings by 121 runs.
