TAKAPUNA CONCLUDES

ROYAL DOULTON WINS WHITE WINGS AGAIN K. VOITRE’3 SIX WINNERS [Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. Showery weather during the forenoon affected the attendance at the final day’s racing of the Takapuna Jockey Club’s spring meeting and a few showpopular institution. The totalisator The going was good, however. The five-shilling “tote” again proved a popular institution. Tre totalisator handled £25,586 15s against £33,022 10s making £62,103 for the meeting, compared with £75,522 last year, a decrease of £13,419. Karangapai Was Good Karangapai, a big favourite in the Vauxhall Handicap, had to be good to win but he did after being badly placed at the half-mile. Merry Lu, from the inside position, shot out clear and led to the home.turn, where he was attended by Valmarie, Good Idea, Karangapai, Operatic, Land Measure and Camp Princess. The favourite had his work cut out to catch Merry Lu, whom he beat by threcquarters of a length. Valmarie was half a length back, followed by Good Idea, Lard Measure, King Swift, Great Emblem, Royal Survey and Smithfield. The second horse paid a double-figure dividend. Luminary All the Way Luminary led all the way in the Kawau Highweight. Just when the field closed on him at the turn he went away again and won by a length and a-half from Patutahi, who headed Stonehenge on the post. Trishna, who again got an indifferent passage, was fourth, and Glenstar, St. Ames, Bizarro and Quinconia followed. Both first and second horses paid good prices. Easy for Carl Idem Carl Idem easily defeated Biddy’s Boy in the Stanley Handicap. Red Lion led to tip? home turn, ahead of Carl Idem, Gay Idea, Biddy’s Boy, and Currajong. In the run home Carl Idem drew out to beat Biddy’s Boy by a length and a-half, with Tambourine half a length away. ‘ Red Line, Gay Idea and Currajong followed. Biddy’s Boy and Tambourine were unlucky. A Remarkable Race White Wings paid a remarkable price when she won the Gautley Handicap, and indeed it was a remarkable race altogether. She was last two furlongs from home, where Awamutu led a bunched lot, comprising King Ford, Royal Tea and Leitrim. Then suddenly the field left the rails and from last White Wings slipped through. She came in a few strides from last to first. From this out it was literally a cakewalk for White Wings, who won easing up by over three lengths from the favourite, Royal Tea. Paganclli was finishing on, a length away, next to finish being Lucy Rose, King Ford, Leitrim, and Awamutu. The St. Andrew’s Handicap Three horses carried big money in the St. Andrew’s Handicap, these being Eager Rose, True Blood and Royal Doulton, and the last-named finally ’won well from the little-fancied Mosque. Going out of the straight Eager Rose piloted Flying Prince, Mosque, Royal Doulton, Nassock, Bennie and True Blood. Along the back Royal Doulton ran up to the leaders and she led to the straight from Eager Rose, Flying Prince, Mosque and True Blood. In the run home Royal Doulton drew out and, shaking off a late challenge by Mosque, won well by a neck. Eager Rose was two and a-half lengths away, third, in front of True Blood, Flying Prince, Bennio and Nassock. The winner gave the field a start and a beating.

Takanini Juveniles Trainer Jamieson again supplied first and second in the two-year-old race, the Rakino Handicap. Chief Jewel was a good favourite and he was in front all the way. Crossing the top Hoihoma was with him, the pair being clear at the home turn from Princess Bede, Royal Gallant, Ammon Ra, Barometer and Titanettc, the field being strung out. Chief Jewel shook off the opposition apd won easily by a couple of lengths. Ammon Ra, having his first outing, got second, nearly a length ahead of Princess Bede with Spcodinint Hoihoma, Titanette, Royal Gallant, Baroscope and Fedora following. Ammon Ra is going to develop into a class youngster. He is a half-brother by Limond to Prodice. Manawhenua Improves Manawhenua improved on his first day’s showing and won the Pupuke Handicap handsomely. Spring Abbey and Haviland led to the home turn, whom the latter went, very wide, following them being Big Bertha, Clopton, Manawhenua, Gold Lily, and Sir Mond. Over lhe last bit Manawhenua and Clopton, drew out, the former winning by half a length. Sir Mond was third, tv/o length's back, and Brampton, Neil, Haviland, Spring Abbey and Gold Lily followed.

Ti Tree Takes the Last K Voitre rode his sixth winner and Jamieson turned out his fifth winner of the meeting when Ti Tree, at a good price, led the Ngataringa Handicap field home. Haniton (who was slow away), Tetrarchate, Ti Tree, Sir Russell and Nancy Lee was the order round the home turn. Ti Tree went away to win by a length and a half from Sir Russell, with half a length back to Lady’s Boy. Following them came Nancy Lee, Honiton, Tetrarchate, Newboy and Wako King.

After the Rakino Handicap an inquiry was held into the running of Ammon Ra. Trainer J. T. Jamieson who also trained the winner, Chief Jewel, was informed tnat in future he was to give more definite instructions to riders and was censured for not having done so. The jockey, Ludlow, was censured for not riding Ammon Ra more vigorously.
