PLAYING CROQUET AT 80
MBS WEDDERSPOON HONOURED. A pleasant function took place at the Wanganui Croquet Club’s pavilion on Wednesday last, when the members met to do honour to their oldest player, Airs Richard Wedderspoon, who celebrates her 80th birthday this week. The president, Airs Crawford, presented Airs Wedderspoon with a beautiful bouquet and asked Archdeacon Meredith to convey to the guest the congratulations of the club. Archdeacon Aleredith said it gave him great pleasure to do so. Airs Wedderspoon, despite her years, displayed great interest in the games and played one or more daily. She had also entered all competitions in the “B” section and hoped to take part in the Dominion tournament at Christchurch as the partner of Mr Arthur Ross in the handicap doubles. The speaker congratulated her on having the health to play the game and hoped she would be able to continue for many years. Archdeacon Aleredith concluded by asking Airs Wedderspoon to accept a small token from her club members in remembrance of the event. Airs Wedderspoon feelingly returned thanks.
