POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD GENERAL BUSINESS. The Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board met yesterday, Air F. Purnell presiding. There were also present Messrs K. W. Dalrymple, P. Munro, H. MaeManaway, J. Patterson, A. E. Halligan, R. G. Dalzicll, McLean, W. and »S. Glenn. Air Glenn, on behalf of Mr W. Aforrison and himself, who had been appointed to interview Air G. V. Pearce with regard to a charge he (Mr Pearce) intended imposing on the board if power lines were run through his property, reported having acquainted Air Pearce with the fact that the charge would be against the consumers who were having the line put through, not on the board. Air Pearce had been non-committal, but advised that it was all a question of the amount of damage the erection of poles would cause. Air Glenn thought that if the damage was not. great the charge might be waived, though the committee had not been given any understanding on the matter. Atessrs Glenn and Aforrison were thanked. Afr Glonn referred to Mr W. Aforrison’s appointment on the. Highways Bead. This might mean Air Aforrison’s retirement on the Power Board owing to conflict of meeting dates. The speaker desired that the matter be considered with a view to making an alteration of dates so far as the Power Board was concerned as he did not think the services of Mr Morrison should be lost.—lt was decided to de fer the matter until next meeting. The Alangaweka Town Board wrote accepting the terms for hulk supply of power as submitted, as from October p—Received, and the arrangement confirmed. The Afanaging Secretary (Mr P. H. Smith) advised that there had been considerable correspondence with the Public AVorkfl Department with regard to an interpretation of a clause in the agreement with the board in connection with the closing down of the steam plant. The crux of the matter was whether £lOOO concession was to be made to the board in consequence of closing down the steam plant in favour of hydro without any condition. or whether it was only to be .made tf the board used fl stated minimum of hvdro power. The secretary said that the verbal arrangement, was that the amount was to be allowed the board merely in consequence of closing the steam plant, but the Depar ment was reading into the clause, that the minimum amount of power had o be taken.—On the motion of Mr flenn. the chairman. Mr MaeManaway ami the secretary- were appointed to inter Mew the chief departmental engineer.
