AUSTRALIAN STOREKEEPERS. FARMERS OWE £6,000,000. SYDNEY. Nov. 19. A deputation representing 300 country storekeepers informed the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Dunn) that the debts against farmers on the books of the country storekeepers amounted io £6,000,000. The amount was arrived st by calculating the exact total owed to 89 and striking an average for the remainder.
One speaker said that the storekeepers carried the farmers’ debts until they were themselves in a parlous position ami unable ot continue the farmers’ credit.
Another siad that the rust and low prices had created a crisis of appalling magnitude. He was appalled by tin* position for the storekeepers could not expect oven half the amount duo to them.
A third said that if assistance was not, given the farmer would soon be off the land and the storekeepers wit.’ him.
