WANGANUI SALE

Freeman It. Jackson and Co. report on their Wanganui sale held yesterday as follows: We had a good entry of cattle comprising mostly yearling and 2-year empty dairy heifers. The sale was not a brisk one and vendors’ reserves were in many instances too high for buyers, however, we had a very fair clearance, several lots being sold privately. Good quality yearling Jersey heifers sold up to £4 10s, which must be considered quite satisfactory. The sheep and pig sections were a moderate entry, which met a fair sale at late rates- Quotations:

Sheep: Fat shorn ewes 13s 6d to 14s, fat hoggets 16s 3d, 17s 6d to 225, aged ewes with S.D. lambs at foot 22s Gd.

Cattle: Light fat cows £5 10s to £6 15s, forward cows £4 12s 6d, £5, to £5 ss, 2-year empty P-A. and Hereford heifers £4 12s 6d. 3-ycar empty Hereford heifers £5, forward Hereford cows £6, store Hereford cows £3 15s, £4 10s to £5 15s, store cows £2, £2 10s to £3 ss, good yearling Jersey heifers £4 9s to £4 10s, yearling Jersey cross heifers £2 2s to £3, 2-year Holstein heifers £4 10s, sound 2-ycar Jersey Bulls £6 15s to £S 15s, yearling Jersey bulls £1 6s, £4 to £5 2s 6d; dairy cows £4 15s to £6. Pigs: Porkers 35s to £2, weaners 20s 6s, 21s to 255, vealers £1 Is, £1 7s 6d, £1 12s Gd to £1 17s Gd.

WESTFIELD SALE SHEEP VALUES EASIER LAMB PRICES FIRMER (Per Tress Association.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. At the Westfield sale the quality of ox beef was again first-class. There was a steady demand throughout, with values on a par with last week’s sale. Extra choice ox sold to £1 18s per 100 lb, choice and prime ox £1 l(is to £1 17s, secondary and plain ox £1 13s to £1 J4s, prime young cow and heifer beef £1 13s to £1 16s, ordinary cow beef £1 5s to £1 J2s. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £l5 to £l5 12s 6d, heavy prime steers £l3 Jss to £l4 17s 6d, lighter prime steers £l2 15s to £l3 12s (id, light prime steers £ll 15s to £l2 12s 6d, small and unfinished steers £7 5s to £ll 7s 6d, extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £lO Jos to £ll ss, heavy prime cows and heifers £9 to £lO 7s 6d, lighter prime cows and heifers £7 10s to £8 17s 6d, other killable cows £4 to £7 7s 6d. There was again a heavy yarding of sheep, and competition was not keen. Generally values were easier. Extra heavy prime wethers, shorn, realised £1 3s to £1 3s 9d, heavy prime wethers shorn, £1 Is 6d to £L 2s 9d, woolly £1 4s to £1 4s 9d, medium to heavy prime wethers, shorn, £1 to £1 Is 3d, woolly £1 3s to £1 3s 9d, light to medium prime wethers, shorn, J7s 6d to 19s (id, unfinished wethers, shorn, 15s to 17s 3d, extra heavy prime young ewes, shorn, 15s to 17s 3d, heavy prime ewes, shorn, 13s Gd to 14s 9d, lighter prime ewes, shorn, 12s bo 13s 3d, other killable ewes, shorn, 10s 6d to Ils 9d, other ewes, shorn, 8s to 10s 3d.

Spring lambs met with a spirited sale at slightly firmer figures. Extra heavy prime lambs made £1 3s to £1 3s 6d, heavy prime £1 Is 6d to £1 2s 9d, lighter prime £1 to £1 Is 3d, light, prime 18s to 19s 9d, small and plain 16s 6d to 17s 9d.

There was a full yarding of fat and young calves. Competition was not keen, and although in some cases late values ruled, prices generally were again lower. Runners made £4 5s to £8 10s, heavy vealers £3 14s to £4 ss, medium £3 3s to £3 Bs, light £2 10s to £2 18s, small vealers £1 12s to £2, bucket-fed calves 18s to £1 4s, fresh dropped and small 3s to 16s. A smaller offering of fat pigs sold at equal to last week’s rates. No heavy choppers were penned. Light weights made £2 5s to £2 15s, heavy baconers £3 2s to £3 7s, light and medium £2 4s to £2 Bs, small and unfinished £1 13s to £1 18s, stores £1 10s to £1 15s, good slips £1 6s to £1 Bs, weaners £1 to £1
