FERRY STEAMER SOLD

THE DUCHESS FOR AUCKLAND NEW UNION COASTAL VESSEL | Per Press Association. I WELLINGTON. Nov. 19. After more than 30 years’ service in the harbour ferry run, the steamer Duchess, which has now been laid up for about IS months, was sold by the Eastbourne Borough Council to an Auckland buyer. The Duchess will be towed to Auckland about the end of next week and will take up the running bet wet'n Auckland and Kawau Island. The Kini. a new coastal vessel built for the Union Steam Ship Coy. by Messrs John Lewis and Co.. Aberdeen, is expected to leave Britain early in December for Wellington via Panama. She has a deadweight carrying capacity of 1800 tons and is especially designed for the carrying of long timber poles. She lias two hatches and the engines art' amidships. Her sea speed is eight knots.
