SYDNEY MEAT STRIKE
NO SETTLEMENT REACHED TRADE LOSS ALREADY' £120,000 SYDNEY, Nov. 19. Mr Justice Piddington's efforts to settle the strike have failed chiefly on the ground that the strikers declined to give a guarantee of continuity of operations. The employers are now going ahead with an application for the deregistration of the Moat Employees’ Union which embraces slaughtermen. It is estimated that the value of the export trade already lost is £120,000.
MARSHALLING FORCES. MEAT FROM QUEENSLAND. Received Nov. 19, 9.45 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 19. The failure of negotiations to end the meat strike, is causing much concern in the metropc’itan area. Both sides are now marshalling their forces for a protracted struggle. Retail shops are rationing employees, and quite a number will have to close at the weekend.
The master butchers have ordered fresh supplies from the adjoining States, but the Victorian branch of th*' Meat Employees’ Union resolved not to handle meat for New South Wales while the strike continues. A shipment, however, is on the way from Queensland.
