ROWING
THE WANGANUI SHED DUSTIN FOURS TROPHY. FIRST TWO HEATS ROWED. Unpleasant conditions prevailed on the river last evening when the Wan ganui Rowing Club commenced racing for the Dustin Fours Trophy. A cold wind and rain was compensated for. however, by good “water.” ‘ The first two crews to compete pa I died upstream in a downpour, and a drizzle continued while they raced.
Grover beat G. Powell in tho first heat by three lengths after an uninteresting race, the winning crew proving greatly superior to their rivals. The second heat, produced a more interesting race with the final issue in doubt until the post was reached. V. Clap ham chose Ihe inside course against J. Crichton and from an even start, had gained half a length at the Dublin Street Bridge. Crichton drew level nt Guyton Street but ('lapham spurted to win by a canvas. Both crews steered a good course. Linsson will row Clay at 5.30 this afternoon.
