FRIENDS SCHOOL BATH
OFFICIAL OPENING NEXT SATURDAY
The new swimming bath at the Friends {School, {St. John’s Hill fa to be oflicially opened on Saturday afternoon.
The bath has cost over £6OO, the money being raised by private subscription mainly in England and work done by the scholars. It is hoped to raise another £2O by the bazaar on Saturday. Messrs. J. Jones and {Sons have carried out the work, Air Taiboys being architect. The bath measures 60 feet by 25 feet and ha# a wide concrete walk all round with suitable diving boards, etc.
After the bath has been declared open there will be a short exhibition on swimming and life saving by six ladies and gentlemen members of the Gonville baths and a demonstration of breastrstroke swimming by Mr Len Smith, the champion of New Zealand. At 3.45 there will be folk dancing by scholars on the lawn for about half an hour.
During the afternoon the school buildings will be open to visitors. Invitations have been sent out but anyone who would like to take this opportunity of seeing the school should apply to the principal. There is no objection to visitors bringing their bathing costumes.
