BLENDING OF BUTTER
PROTECTION FOR PUBLIC Protection for both the consuming public and fur producer against the practice of blending up to 90 per cent, of cheap and inferior butter with a small proportion of English, and foisting this on to the public under labels that suggested an English origin, is being sought, stated a recent issue or the News Bulletin, of the Department of Markets. Commonwealth of Australia. by organisations of Empire and home producers. Intimation has been given to the Ministry of Agriculture that an application is being put forward for an order, under the Merchandise Marks Act. 1926. to make compulsory the marking of butter (including blended butter) with the country of origin. The letter, which is backed by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board, ihp Australian Dairy Produce Board, the Irish Free State and the British Dairy Farmers’ Association, states that the application will be submitted without delay. The application will be forwarded, in the first place, to the British Ministry of Agriculture, which, it is stated, is prepared to give the application its very careful and sympathetic consideration.
