GENEROUS JEWS
GIFTS IN AMERICA TEAK’S TOTAL OF £14,500,000 NEW YORK, Oct. 15. American Jews gave £14,500,000 to Jewish philanthropies here and abroad and to non-Jewish causes for the year ended September 15, 1930, according to an announcement by tfie Jewish Telegraphic Agency. This body, which compiles an annual honour roll of American Jewry, based its figures on individual gifts of £lO.OOO or more, of which there were 41. and on the funds raised and expended by various national Jewish religious, educational, philanthropic, health and relief organisations, together with their local units.
The amount raised for specifically Jewish causes by the national organisations was £7,500,000, and the sum given in individual benefactions was £7,000,000, of which £5.600,000 was contributed to non-Jewish causes. The largest gift from an individual was £2.000,000 by Mr Maurice Falk, of Pittsburgh, for charitable purposes, to be known as the Falk Foundation. The estate oT Mr Conrad Hubert gave £l,200,000 to Jewish. Catholic, and Protestant charities. Mr Louis Bamberger and his sister gave £1,000,000 for advanced learning.
