THAT POLISHED FLOOR

There is something very appealing in a house that has its floors and surrounds well kept and polished, and these can be kept in order without going to any unnecessary expense ana labour, if treated regularly, in an expert way.

The ‘lays have gone by when housewives imagined that floors, whether polished, tiled, or covered with linoleum, required to be repeatedly scrubbed to keep them clean. Nowadays there are so many labour-saving de-

vices that the task of keeping the floors spotlessly clean is no longer one to bo dreaded.

Every kind of wood has its own individuality, and needs its own special treatment, but we will deal with the ordinary kinds of wood that one finds in tho average home.

Scrubbing constantly is apt to extract the oil an dgum from all kinds of wood, so that unless some substitute is found, the boards will eventually become cracked and porous ana unsightly. On the other hand, the application of an oil substance, containea in the specially prepared polishes and creams will preyent the wood becoming dry and cracked, and will also obviate the necessity of constant washing with hot water.

Highly polished floors can be kept spotlessly clean and in good condition by applying good floor cream that -will clean as well as polish. The use of a special mop is, of course, a boon, and prevents backache, resulting from constant kneeling and bending, but failing this, try this method: Tie a clean, soft rag, or polisher over the bristles of a long-haired soft broom, apply a little of the polish, and then rub vigorously, turning the cloth as it becomes soiled, and renewing the application of polish as required.
