THE WANGANUI SHED YOUTHS’ ANNUAL RACE WANGANUI CLUB v. COLLEGE Activities in rowing circles in Wanganui over the week-end will be mainly confined to training for club races. An event will be watched with great interest by a large number of oarsmen will be the annual race between a Wanganui Club youths’ crew and the Collegiate four. College, who arc to meet Christ’s College on Thursday, have been under the capable tuition of “Wally’’ Sharpe for some time and are showing fine form. The Wanganui crew have not had as jong together this season as might be wished, club competitions having interfered with training to a certain cxrcnt. Nevertheless they should be well able to give a good account, of themselves. The race will bo. rowed this afternoon at 4 o’clock over a mile course.

The School crew arc looking forward with great keenness to the race on Thursday when they ftnpc to bring their boat, past the post well in advance of their opponent’s. The race will bo rowed over the regatta course at, Aramoho. The following are the erows to race this afternoon: Wanganui: ('lay (str), Powell (3). Moffett (2), Grover (bow). Collegiate School: Loe (str), White (3). Bell (2), Coleman (bow). The officials of the race will he: Starter: Mr IT. W. Cooper; umpire Mr P. Evans; judge, Mr T. Atchison.

At a largely-attended meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Association during the week it was decided to hold the annual regatta on Anniversary Day (January 22, 1931), this date being made available as a result of the decision of the Motor Boat Club to stage their regatta on Now Year’s Day.

It was also decided that a race for the junior lightweights be held at the annual regatta, and that the Senior Fours be rowed over two miles. The finishing point for the latter event will be the same as hitherto but the starting point will be half a mile further up stream.
