CURRENT PUBLICATIONS

We have received a copy of the Now Zealand Dairy Exporter Annual for 1930-31. Messrs Heighway and Burnard are to be congratulated on the very admirable production, which has the distinction of being the work of amateur writers. The standard of literary achievement is high, and the various short stories, contributed verse and other articles make up a very charming magazine of some 160 pages.

As a Christmas gift for the people “at Home” this annual should prove of benefit, for the illustrated section alone is worth the small cost, and will show the beauties of our Dominion, both physical and geographical. It is invidious to pick out any particular writer or section for praise. The reader will find many short stories, serious or the reverse. The poetically minded may browse on the verse which has been contributed, and which in many cases shows considerable promise. Beautiful children, fine homesteads and scenic glories take up much of the illustrated section, whilst there are informative articles on such diverse matters and persons as Ramsay MacDonald, Carisbrook Castle and the Victoria Falls. Naturally there is a section concerned with farming, and the children are well catered for. Cookery has several pages devoted to the gastronomic art, and we hope the Christmas fare will be the richer for this year’s “Exporters’Annual.” ' H.L.
