An idea! golfing day was provided for the final of the New’ Zealand amateur championship at the Hokowhitu links to-day and there was a large ‘gallery ” to see the two brothers J. L. Black and H- A. Black, dispute the issue. As a result, Harold Black holds the title. Jack seems destined not to win the championship. In the morning round poor golf, more like club golf than the championship final was provided but in the afternoon there was a better display. The 18th was halved in 4, leaving Harold 3 up. Jack had gone round in 79 and Harold in 76. Jack was bunkered at the 19th. and Harold took the hole in 4 —Harold 4 up. The 20th. was halved in 4. Harold sank a good putt at the 21st for a 3 to win—Harold 5 up. Jack was obviously slipping and Harold was playing confidently. Jack, pulling his drive at the 22ndtook 4 to Harold's 3 —Harold 6 up. Both played the 23rd badly, requiring 6. A stymie cost Harold the hole at the 24th-. which Jack took in 5 to Harold-s 6—Harold 5 up. The 25th- was halved in 5 at the 26th., both were bunkered but Harold made the better recovery to win in 4 Harold 6 up. Harold met another stymie at the 27th. taking 4 to Jack's 3. The 28th. was halved in 4, as also were the 29th and 30th. while the 31st. was halved in 3 and the 32nd. in 5. Harold was now dormy. He was bunkered at 33rd. but recovered well. Jack was bad on the green. Harold winning in 4 and taking the championship 6 up and 4On the day's play the better man won. Jack was all astray in his short work and on the greens. It is the first occasion on which Harold has ever beaten Jack in the final of a club or any other thampionship-
