“STORMIEST ON RECORD”
GERMAN ELECTIONS CANDIDATES IN THOUSANDS GOVERNMENT v. EXTREMISTS Held to be the “stormiest on record,” the German general elections, now in full swing, will reveal a battle between stable Government supporters and those who desire a dictatorship. [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] Received Sept. 14, 7.20 p.m. BERLIN, Sept. 13. General election polling is proceeding throughout Germany to-day and Sunday. Eight thousand candidates, representing 24 parties, are seeking the votes of 35,000,000 electors. The issue is virtually whether the constitutional parties are strong enough to form a workable Government and avoid a Fascist or a Socialist dictatorship. The election is the stormiest on record, but it is believed there will be little change of strength in the chief parties. The result may not be known for several days.
