DRAW AT ATHLETIC PARK
HAWKE’S BAY AND WELLINGTON. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. After a hard gruelling game that for the most part w r as contested by the forwards, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington drew 6 all at Athletic Park this afternoon. Until two minutes from the end the Bay side was leading by three points, having scored two tries in the second spell, Wellington having scored a try late in the first spell. It looked as though the visitors had every chance of coming out victorious until from a drop-off from the Bay twenty-five at least half a dozen Wellington men handled in a last-minute spurt that ended in Ball scoring well out amid great excitement. Wellington was rather lucky to avert defeat, for on tho day’s play the Hawke’s Bay team deserved a win. Ball scored twice for Wellington, neither try being converted, and Wanoa and Sheriffs scored for Bay, the kicks at goal failing. Rolls and Ruru, both Bay players, had to come off during the game, Ruru receiving an especially severe injury. Mr J. Moffett (Wellington) refereed.
