NEW ZEALAND AND CANADA MR FORBES’ APPEAL MUTUAL FAITH NEEDED WASHINGTON, Sept. 12. The need of mutual faith in commerce, particularly between members of the British Commonwealth nations, and the folly of one-sided trade were emphasised by the Premier of New. Zealand (Hon. G- W. Forbes), when addressing the Canadian Club on Friday. He reminded his hearers that Canada’s trade to New Zealand had increased from less than 12,000,000 dollars in 1926 to more than 23,000,000 in 1929, while New Zealand’s trade to Canada had increased from 6,000,000 to 16,000,000 dollars.

He said: ,‘Wc have great hopes that this increase will continue. However, there has been a change in your fiscal policy which may affect trade between us. We had hoped by sending you large supplies of butter that we might build up that balance which we buy from you. I have high hopes that my discussions with the Premier of Canada will lead us to an agreement which will be mutually beneficial. We hope to have some exports that we may extend to vou-”
