CAPSIZED SAILING BOAT
FOUND IN HAURAKI GULF NO SIGN OF THE CREW [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Sept. 12. A capsized 14-foot sailing boat with all sail set was found floating in Hauraki Gulf two and a-half miles from the shore about 3 o’clock this afternoon by the crew of the scow Seagull. From the fact that sails were set it is feared that the boat was occupied when it was upset. Up to a late hour to-night, however, no one had been reported missing. The Seagull was coming to Auckland and when off Castor Bay Point, on the north side of Milford, the crew picked up the rudder and tiller, an oar and grating. Shortly afterwards .the boat was observed floating bottom upwards, and with only the centre-board showing above water. The derelict was brought to Auckland by the Seagull and Captain Lang, master of the scow, reported the matter to the police. The boat is painted white but there is no name on it. It was empty when found. A boisterous south west wind was blowing and the water was squally.
