“FIRE BUG” SCARE
ALLOCATION OF REWARD POLICE OFFICERS ELIGIBLE [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. During the recent “fire bug’’ scare in Christchurch, a reward of £250 was offered by the Underwriters’ Association for the apprehension of the offenders and the question arose whether the police were entitled to benefit from the reward. The Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, has now decided that it is competent for members of the police force to accept a reward and the allocation has been left to Commissioner Wohlmann. It is understood that the bulk of the money will go to Constable Gillam, who was responsible for the apprehension of the Gray brothers.
