KISS WITH AN ECHO
ASSAULT CHARGE FOLLOWS WHITE BOY" AND CHINESE As a result of two attempts to kiss May Wong, Charles Henry Bourne, 19, yesterday appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Dr. Skerman and Mr F. Spencer, J.’sP., charged with assault. Bourne was very repentant that morning, after spending the night in the cells, said Detective J. Walsh. But at the same time his actions were those of a blackguard. Ho was making his first appearance in Court. On Wedncs day he visited the shop where the young woman was working by herself, and took certain liberties ami tried to kiss her. That incident, said the detective, passed off, but on Thursday accused returned to the shop where the girl was working and repeated the per formance. The girl, who was 15 years of age, was not injured in any way. On both occasions she was alone in the shop and was very much frightened. 4 ‘You are a young fellow and you must understand that in this country we don’t allow boys of your ago to go about assaulting young ladies in this way, -whether they are Chinese women or anything else,” said Dr. Skerman. Ho had no right to do that sort of thing. He should respect everybody, no matter what nationality. It was a very serious offence to assault ladies in that way. In consideration of the fact that he had spen'; the night in gaol and expressed his sorrow, he was put under police supervision for six months, to come up for sentence if called upon within six months. An order was made ror the payment of 10s witness’ expenses.
