and academic distinctions. Sir Frederic had only just entered the services of the Museum when the institution acquired a valuable collection of Greek papyri, and it fell tn him to edit them. He has also edited editions of the classics which hav® become handbooks in tho schools and, universities, and has written on th® Bible and military subjects. Grea administrative abilities wer< revealed by Sir Frederic and thf work that they extended hii period of office for three years after he had reached the age limit of 65. It was for his services at the Museum that he was knighted in 1912.
