FLYING BOAT DISASTER
FIVE PEOPLE DROWNED TRAGEDY IN THE BALTIC BERLIN, July 9. Five people were drowned, including four passengers, one of whom was an American woman, when a Dornier Wai flying boat employed in the StettinStockholm service came down in the Baltic Sea after the crankshaft had splintered, tearing the wing and destroying the wireless aerials. The flying boat drifted in the heavy sea for several hours. A schooner which was unable to take off the occupants, began towing the machine, which capsized. The pilot, mechanic and a passenger were picked up, but a search for the others was fruitless.
