ATLANTIC FLIGHT
WYNNE EYTON’S PLANS WILL TRY NEXT YEAR NEW YORK, July 8. A report from St. John’s (Newfoundland) states that Captain Wynne Eyton has announced that he is returning to England and will go over to Newfoundland again next year,” when he will attempt the flight with the same type of ’plane.
Captain C. 8. Wynne Eyton was painfully injured when his de Haviland Puss Moth aeroplane crashed a few days ago as he took off from St. John’s for Harbour Grace, whence he had proposed to start on a lone flight to Ireland. Spectators rescued the airman from the wreckage of the machine three minutes before the petrol tanks exploded and caused a fire which destroyed the aeroplane. AVIATOR FORCED DOWN RESCUED BY STEAMER RIO IDE JANEIRO, July 9. Engine trouble forced Mermoz who was returning with the mail across the Atlantic to alight on the sea beside the steamship Phocee, 300 miles from Dakar. Mermoz and his two companions and the mail were saved.
