AT THE RACES

WINTER MODES. The morning of the second day of lhe winter meeting broke with a depressing greyness of sky and atmosphere, which cleared a little before noon, but as the day advanced the threat of rain became stronger. Anxi ous eyes wen turned towards the large bank of black clouds, and soon tiro rain came down in heavy showers, and very few people ventured out from the grandstands. This state of affairs was all the more disappointing, w’hen the beauty of the first day’s meeting was remembered.

There was a large attendance, and it was a day for tiie tweed coats and tailored suits. Flecked and heather tweeds in all their variety were veiy prominent, and there w’ere many of these- The new ensemble s in coat and cape effect were a pronounced feature of the dressing. “Tuck-in” blouses are again coming into favour, and a few of these were seen, worn with the tailored suit.
