DIANA’S LAD DEPARTS

RETURNED TO TRENTHAM AN UNFORTUNATE MISHAP. The Wanganui racecourse, owing to its light sandy forma.Jon, has gained an enviable and envied reputation as a good winter track for training operations, and as such it is appreciated and used every year by an increasing number of trainers. Naturally, it cannot be expected that a splendid wet weather track will be without drawbacks in dry weather. A long spell of dry weather makes the track somewhat treacherous, providing false going which has caused quite a number of mishaps to horses in the past, and some have been serious enough to necessitate the destruction of the unfortunate animal s concernedBecause of this and the unsuitably shape of the course for racing, a be. of owners decline to bring hor: to Wanganui, though this has not meant that the best of the land have ’ given Wanganui a wide berth. Far from it, for some of the greatest performers in the Dominion have shown their speed and staying ability here. However, the latest victim is Diana’s Lad, who has returned homo to Trentham decidedly lame and likely to be out of commission for some time. He injured himself behind when galloping on Wednesday morning and was very lame. As a matter of fact it was only with the greatest difficulty that he was got off the course and later to the train. As ho was in good fettle and showing more than promise as a hack ’chaser, the mishap was most unfortunate at thi s stage of the jumping season.
