The match between Lancashire and Australia was resumed in warm sunshine with a strong breeze. Grimmett’s fingers were sore from spinning the ball. Prospects for an interesting finish attracted an attendance, of 2000 spectators. Eckersby was again confident. Paynter hit one back to Fairfax in the second over, the bowler falling in taking a good catch. Grimmett was again punished by Eckersby but the Lancashire captain kept his foot in the crease.
