SHOOTING
CLAY-BIRD TITLE WANGANUI MAN WINS. WELLINGTON CHA MPION. The Wanganui Gun Club held the Wellington district clay-bird championship on Saturday. A haze, together with a breeze, puzzled the shooters for a time. The provincial championship was won by C. Kempton, of Wanganui. The Taihape Gun Club members “had a day out,” figuring conspicuously in the results list. Following are the scores:—
Wellington Provincial Clay Championship, 21 birds off 18 yards, 15 competitors.—The gold medal was won by C. Kempton (Wanganui), after a five-bird shoot-off with J. Donald (Palmerstson North) and A. Myers (Kimbolton). The score s in the shoot-off were 24, 23 and 22 respectively. All were one off the possible in the first shoot- Nchoff (Dannevirke), who scored 23, participated in the prizemoney, but was not eligible for the championship as he was out of the Wellington district. Seven-bird Handicap.—ll competitors. —Divided by J. Duncan (14yds.), 7 birds; E. Anderson (12yds.), 7 birds; J. Thurston (12yds-), 7 birds; H. Quarterman (16yds.), 7 birds (all Taihape), A. Ruscoe (12yds.), 7 birds (Wanganui). Six-bi rd Handicap, 16 competitors.— Divided by J. Ormond (15yds.), 6 birds; E. Anderson (13yds.), 6 birds; 11. Quarterman (17yds.), 6 birds, all from Taihape Gun Club. 12-Bird Handicap, 17 competitors— Divided by H. Belk (14yds.), 12 birds; 11. Quarterman (16yds.), 12 birds (Taihape); G. W. Beard (15yds.), 12 birds (Kimbolton).
10-Bird, shooters’ own choice mark, 16 competitors.—Won by J. Donald (Palmerston North), 10 birds. J. Duncan, 11. Belk, E. Anderson (Taihape), A- Kuscoe and C. Kempton (Wanganui), Nehoff (Dannevirke), with nine breaks each, divided second money. Nine-bird Handicap, 15 competitors —First and second money divided by J. Ormond (Taihape) 13yds, and G. W. Beard (Kimbolton), 15 yards, with nine breaks each. The third position was filled with eight breaks each by J. Dunlop (14yds.), A. McKee (14yds.), A. Kuscoe (14yds.), Wanganui; and E. Anderson (12yds.), Taihape. Double Rise, off 14yds.—J. Ormond (Taihape) eight breaks, 1; H. Quarterman (Taihape), six breaks, 2. Long Rise Box Sweep, three birds.— J. Ormond (Taihape), three breaks.
