An Eltham message states that the sudden death occurred on Saturday while holidaying at his son’s residence at Egmont Village, of Mr Charles Janies Bclchcr, of Rawhitira, Eltham, aged 74. Ho was an old identity of the district and took a prominent part in public affairs. He was a member of the County Council for twenty-two years and was chairman for 13 years. He was a director of the Dairy Co., a member of the Taranaki Power Board and other bodies. Ho retired last July when his services were recognised at a public gathering. He was a director of the Farmers’ Mutual Insurance. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of five sons and three daughters.
