WITH THE LIGHT BLUES UNION CLUB ACTIVITIES. Though the summer season’s passing nuts an end to the activities of the rowing world, the Union Boat Club are not willing to drop their oars and spend the winter months in inactivity. Thus it is that members are taking an active interest in the Winter Pennant, which has been presented for weekly competition . During the week-end some interesting contests were held for the trophy over sprint courses, and these will be continued each week. In the spring,
when the competition closes, the names of the four leaders in the ‘ladder ’ ’ will be entered on the pennant. The crews contesting the opening heats were as follows: — Cotterill, Jackson, Thompson, Jones. Tonks, Nicol, Smith, Hasler. Gullery, Jenn, Henley, Carr. Weir, Kiddle, Dustin, Cry sell. In the first Tonks beat Weir and Cotterill beat Gullery. In the final Tonks scored a narrow victoryover Cotterill. In the handicap sculling Nolan beat Trail and also defeated Jackson.
